How to Calculate GPA
Your GPA is the weighted average of your grade points, where each course is weighted by its credit hours. To calculate it: multiply each course grade (as points on the 4.0 scale) by its credit hours, sum all those products to get total grade points, then divide by total credit hours.
Example: If you got an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit course, your grade points are 4.0×3 + 3.0×4 = 12 + 12 = 24. Total credits = 7. GPA = 24 ÷ 7 = 3.43.
What GPA do I need for honors? Most universities require a 3.5 GPA for Dean's List and a 3.7–3.9 GPA for Latin honors (cum laude, magna cum laude, summa cum laude). Graduate school admissions typically expect a 3.0 minimum.
