How to Use the Tip Calculator

Enter your bill amount, select a tip percentage (or type a custom one), and set the number of people splitting the bill. The calculator instantly shows the tip amount, total bill, and each person's share.

The standard tip in the US is 15–20% of the pre-tax bill. Use 15% for adequate service, 18% for good service, and 20%+ for excellent service. For large groups, some restaurants add an automatic gratuity of 18–20%.

Quick Tip Reference

As a quick mental shortcut: to calculate 10% of any bill, move the decimal point one place to the left. For 20%, double that amount. For 15%, find 10% then add half of that. For $48.50: 10% = $4.85, 20% = $9.70, 15% = $7.28.
